Hyperactivity
Hyperactivity often brings energy, spontaneity, and quick thinking. Those same qualities can create real challenges for sitting through long meetings, slowing down, or falling asleep. In ADHD, this pattern comes from differences in arousal regulation and motor control, not from laziness or a lack of willpower.
How it can show up
Feeling “revved” or restless; bouncing a leg, tapping, fidgeting without noticing
Struggling to sit through meetings or long classes; looking for reasons to stand or move
Talking more than intended, rapid speech, or jumping between topics
Preferring fast-paced tasks; multitasking to stay engaged; boredom feels intolerable
Racing thoughts, mental chatter, or a constant urge to do something
Trouble winding down at night; second wind in the late evening; difficulty with sleep routines
